Our band, Beatnik Turtle, is a horn-powered pop-rock band that’s been compared to They Might Be Giants, XTC, The Saw Doctors, Barenaked Ladies and The Beatles. Our contemporaries include other indie artists like Jonathan Coulton, George Hrab, Nice Peter, and Brad Sucks.
In 2008, National Public Radio dubbed us “remarkably prolific and fiercely independent.” That’s due to the fact we’ve released a song for every day of 2007 at TheSongOfTheDay.com (resulting in 18 albums to date) as well as writing the post-Internet how-to guide for musicians, The Indie Band Survival Guide (St. Martin’s Press/Macmillan) and The DIY Music Manual (Ebury/Random House). We also love writing music for others – including composing music for podcasts, videos, TV, and theater.
All our music is podsafe and sharable under a Creative Commons license. That means it can be used on your podcast, remixed, or used to create other work like videos. Most importantly, we love collaborating with others — whether you’re a musician or not — to make new music (join the site and help us make more songs!) as well as to continue to share everything we know so other musicians can do-it-themselves.
We write a lot of music. Here’s just some to get you started if we’re new to you. There’s more listening suggestions here and tons of music available for free at our continuing podcast, TheSongOfTheDay.com.
